Who owns our dreams?

To what extent are the dreams we have really ours? Is your desired course, job, college or home, whatever you're aiming for, really what you've set as your main goal or were other factors involved?

I think it's impossible

In a practical sense, after all, we are human beings, and our species scientifically requires coexistence, it requires being part of a group, and influences are part of that, it's inevitable, you grew up observing what your guardian(s) did on a daily basis, what they said, whether you wanted to or not, you had to listen to their advice and their world view, and that shapes someone, whether or not according to each content witnessed and its combination.

This is just one of the factors, the influence seen and demonstrated by others, be it family, friends, acquaintances, teachers, as well as cartoons, series, soap operas, music, you name it.

But it doesn't stop there

As we grow up and reach that age when it's no longer acceptable to say that we want to be astronauts, chefs in Paris or footballers, a range of “suitable” options is introduced, it's almost imperceptible, unlike the moment of the “big choice”, where you're asked what you're going to do from now on - in which area are you going to start working towards it every day until you succeed? P.S: Due tomorrow.

I confess that it's still not clear to me what role the state and its strands play in all this, of course we can talk about the ENEM/SATs, the social problems in public schools, funding, as well as society's judgment and view of “bad choices” and all that, I have a good idea about this but not enough to have the property to speak here as a solid opinion, for that I need to study more!

I don't think it's possible to estimate percentages on how much responsibility and perhaps “originality” someone's dream has, after all, we're like art nowadays, I think nothing is original anymore, so much has happened and so much has been done, that doesn't mean it's bad, that they're all copies, it means they're references, inspirations, we're the end product of various interactions, references, traits.

In other words...

I don't want to make anyone feel bad about their choices and aspirations, you can be happy, you can feel whole and that's what matters, our choices can be derived from good things, from things that make sense to you.

But after all: "Who owns our dreams?”
